The largest tunnel under Great Wall
By the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, high-speed railway line will link the cities of Beijing and Zhangjiakou. The tunnel spans 12.01 kilometers from Beijing’s Changping District to Yanqing District and is an important section of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway. The tunnel ranges from four to 432 meters underground. It will be the deepest and largest railway tunnel in Asia. According to the People’s Daily Online, the tunnel will allow reducing the traveling time between Beijing and Zhangjiakou. According to engineers, the explosive pre-construction works have left the ancient monument unscathed. Moreover, experts said once they stood on the Great Wall, they did not feel the force of the explosion. The 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing on February 4-20, 2022.
