Railway Corridor North-South to be hooked up with Persian Gulf


China and Iran inked a deal Wednesday in Tehran on construction of railway, eventually to connect the country’s second biggest port with North-South Railway Corridor. The deal provides for construction of rail road between Iranian port of Bushehr on the Persian Gulf coast with southern city of Shiraz. The rail line will cover the distance of 400 kilometers. $ 700 million worth project will be fulfilled by China Machinery Industry Construction Group. Thus, with the construction of new railway, the North-South Transnational Railway Corridor, which is a 677 kilometers lengthy route connecting the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, will get rail connectivity with the Persian Gulf and onwards to Middle East. Moreover, this connectivity access will raise the transit potential of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway from the point of view growing cargo flows from China to IRI. The Bushehr-Shiraz rail road would become one of the seven projects in Iranian transport links development strategy, totaling in 2,300 kilometers of infrastructure connections.
