Turkmenistan, Afghanistan describe TAPI as more than just a pipeline
In their summit talks Monday in Ashgabat, President Berdymuhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Ghani of Afghanistan described TAPI as more than just a pipeline. It is a corridor, they said. President Ghani said during the press conference at the presidential palace in Ashgabat, “TAPI is not just a pipeline; it is a complex corridor involving railway line, road, electricity grid, and fiber optics link.” President Berdymuhamedov said, “Regarding TAPI project, we have already signed agreements with Pakistan and India, not only on electricity supplies, but also on fiber-optic communications, and we have also agreed to build in the future the railway and motor road.” TAPI – Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project – which is nearing the implementation stage, will be the backbone of a futuristic corridor, linking two very important sub-regions in Asia. The shared vision of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan augurs well for the prospects of sustainable development of Central and South Asia.
