International trade exhibitions create new opportunities for businesses seeking access to overseas markets. For Kazakhstan, participation in major global events is an important step toward expanding exports and strengthening economic cooperation with China.

Kazakhstan is preparing to open its national pavilion at the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE), scheduled to take place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. The 300-square-meter pavilion will feature products from the country's agricultural and food-processing industries.

Confectionery products will be among the highlights. An Astana-based chocolate manufacturer, producing approximately three metric tons of candies annually, will participate in an international exhibition for the first time.

The company currently operates at just 30 percent of its production capacity and hopes to reach new customers abroad. It will showcase six varieties of chocolates filled with dried fruits, cherries and nuts.

“We combine sweet with salty, and we also add a little spice. We have almonds with chili peppers, which is sweet chocolate paired with chili for a spicy kick. I think Chinese consumers will really love this flavor,” said production director Zhanna Puchkova.

She added that the company will introduce its new Umai brand, featuring an updated range of products and redesigned packaging.

Kazakhstani flour and pasta producers are also preparing for the exhibition. Export manager Arman Amangeldy said his company will present three grades of flour and Tsesna pasta products, describing China as a strategically important market.

The factory manufactures eight types of pasta and maintains strict quality controls. Specialists monitor moisture levels, color, aroma and other characteristics, while a dedicated laboratory examines finished products and raw materials.

The company operates its own flour mills and already exports to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. It hopes to establish China as another regular export destination.

More than 50 Kazakhstani companies have applied to participate in the expo, with 40 receiving government support to exhibit at the national pavilion. Their products include natural juices, wines, mineral water, ice cream, honey, confectionery, dried camel and mare's milk, and edible oil products.

Gulim Nurmukhanova, a senior manager at QazTrade, said the pavilion will combine contemporary design with traditional Kazakh motifs. Visitors will also be offered cultural performances and opportunities to taste Kazakhstani products.

As reported by SSTV+, Kazakhstan will showcase products from 40 companies at the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, seeking new business partnerships and greater access to the Chinese market.
