Turkmenistan Reaffirms Readiness for Partnership at Gas Exporting Countries Summit in Moscow

On October 27, the eighth summit of heads of state and government from member countries of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) took place at the World Trade Center in Moscow. Turkmenistan participated in this major energy forum as a guest; the country’s delegation was led by Maksat Babayev, State Minister and Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengaz."
The primary focus of the high-level meeting was the role of natural gas in ensuring global energy security, as well as strengthening coordination to facilitate stable fuel supplies to world markets. Possessing one of the largest resource bases on the planet, Turkmenistan is consistently implementing a long-term strategy centered on diversifying export routes, modernizing infrastructure, developing deep hydrocarbon processing, and adopting environmentally friendly technologies.

The presence of a Turkmen delegation at a dialogue forum of this scale served as further confirmation of the country’s openness to broad international cooperation and its steadfast commitment to the principles of a balanced energy policy.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the Moscow Declaration. Key principles enshrined in the document include creating conditions to ensure energy security and technological independence, as well as fostering the exchange of experience and cooperation among nations in the sphere of technology.

The GECF (Gas Exporting Countries Forum) brings together leading producers and suppliers of natural gas for the global market. The forum has 12 member states: Russia, Algeria, Bolivia, Venezuela, Egypt, Iran, Qatar, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Equatorial Guinea, and the UAE. There are also eight observer countries: Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru, and Senegal. Two guest nations—Turkmenistan and South Africa—were also invited to this summit.
