Hafiz Shirazi Poetry Day Marked at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On October 20, a literary and cultural event dedicated to the poetry of the prominent classical Persian poet Hafiz Shirazi was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was organized jointly by the Institute and the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkmenistan.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dovletgeldi Khallygylyjov, a lecturer at the Institute, and Abdolreza Abbasi, the Cultural Counselor at the Iranian Embassy. The speakers highlighted the commonalities between Persian and Turkmen literature, noting that the legacy of Hafiz Shirazi is rooted in centuries-old traditions of good-neighborliness and the shared spiritual values of both nations. The Cultural Counselor further remarked that the poetry of Hafiz remains popular to this day due to its simplicity and clarity; his verses—which touch upon themes of friendship, peace, truthfulness, and love—serve as a spiritual treasure not only for Iran, but for the entire world.

The program featured students from Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Dovletmammet Azady Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as students from the Cultural Center’s Persian language courses.

Participants performed poems and songs in both Turkmen and Persian, including works by Hafez Shirazi, Saadi Shirazi, and Magtymguly Pyragy.
At the conclusion of the event, guests and participants viewed a joint exhibition showcasing the applied and decorative arts of both countries, along with a collection of literature on the Persian language.
