Experts from Turkmenistan Participate in a UNESCO Seminar in Jakarta

Representatives from Turkmenistan are taking part in an international training seminar for UNESCO’s "Memory of the World" program, which has begun in Jakarta. The forum, focused on the preservation and nomination of unique historical manuscripts and archival documents, is the largest event of its kind since the program’s inception in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Turkmen delegation includes Chinar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, and Maksat Meredov, a researcher at the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature, and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. The five-day intensive program was organized by the National Archives of Indonesia, in collaboration with the UNESCO National Commissions of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, as well as the Korea Heritage Service.
The seminar’s practical curriculum is designed to train national specialists and familiarize them with modern international standards. Leading experts are instructing professionals from 16 countries in the region on methods for assessing the physical condition of rare collections, managing storage risks, implementing digital archiving, and navigating the intricacies of preparing nominations for the inclusion of national manuscripts in the UNESCO "Memory of the World" International Register.
The participation of Turkmen scholars and diplomats in this forum will help accelerate the digitization of the country’s manuscript collection and promote Turkmenistan’s rich documentary heritage on a global stage. The seminar in Jakarta will continue until October 18.
