Astana's iKOMEK109 platform streamlines municipal services
Astana's intelligent municipal services platform iKOMEK109 has been operating for eight years, bringing city departments and public utilities into a single system to handle residents' requests more efficiently.
The platform integrates around 100 organizations, including administrative departments, district authorities, property management agencies, police and emergency services. Residents do not need to contact different providers separately, as requests are forwarded through the center to the relevant departments.
Operators handle more than 2.5 million requests annually, receiving an average of 4,000 to 8,000 calls per day. Most concern utility failures, water supply, heating, emergencies and other urban infrastructure issues.
In 2026, designated as Kazakhstan's Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Astana is upgrading the iKOMEK 2.0 system. The city is also studying China's experience in video surveillance and AI, adapting selected solutions to local conditions.
The platform is connected to 23,000 cameras, nearly 9,000 of which cover public facilities, including more than 100 schools. The system enables real-time monitoring of urban infrastructure and detection of potential hazards.
Public safety incidents receive particular attention, with detected violations and emergencies referred to police or relevant response services.
According to CCTV+, Astana residents have responded positively to iKOMEK109, citing its fast response and ability to handle a wide range of municipal issues through a single service.
