UN urges U.S. and Iran to continue dialogue amid Strait of Hormuz tensions
The United Nations has called on the United States and Iran to continue diplomatic contacts amid ongoing tensions and concerns over the Strait of Hormuz.
UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organization hopes negotiations will continue with mediation from Qatar, Pakistan and other countries.
According to Axios, indirect talks between the United States and Iran in New York reached a stalemate. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio then demanded that the Iranian delegation attending the UN General Assembly leave the country.
Dujarric said the United Nations does not set a single deadline for national delegations to depart after the General Assembly session ends. He stressed that diplomats carrying out official UN business should be allowed to continue their work.
According to CCTV+, the United Nations is calling for diplomatic channels between Washington and Tehran to remain open. The organization is urging both sides to continue negotiations and avoid further escalation.
