Freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains important for regional trade and energy supplies. Amid continued disruptions to maritime traffic, Oman has reaffirmed its intention to pursue diplomatic and practical efforts to ensure the safe passage of vessels.

Speaking during the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi reaffirmed his country's commitment to continuing efforts to safeguard navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He also called on all parties to cooperate with Oman in the interests of those relying on transit through the waterway.

The minister said continued disruptions to navigation through the strait were affecting trade, energy security and price stability. Oman stressed that its approach is based on international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

On Aug. 25, Oman and Iran announced plans to establish a temporary joint navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz following consultations between their foreign ministers. The two sides also agreed to continue technical talks on a possible permanent navigation corridor, information-sharing and vessel traffic management.

In their joint statement, Oman and Iran emphasized the need to consult with other countries in the region, comply with applicable international law and respect the sovereign rights of coastal states.

As reported by CCTV+, Oman has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to safeguard navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and called for cooperation among the parties concerned.
