Another Group of Foreign Nationals Granted Residence Permits in Turkmenistan
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed a resolution granting residence permits in Turkmenistan. The draft document was presented at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, who reported on the systematic work being carried out to regulate the legal status of foreign nationals and stateless persons—an initiative undertaken in cooperation with the UN and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Turkmenistan is taking consistent measures to prevent statelessness and ensure legal protection for individuals, thereby establishing itself as a country that applies advanced international practices in this area. To date, 5,294 foreign nationals and stateless persons have received residence permits in the country. This measure applies to individuals living with relatives who are citizens of Turkmenistan, those married to citizens of the country, and individuals who were registered in Turkmenistan prior to the introduction of the visa regime with CIS states.
Under the new resolution, another 146 individuals—representing 16 nationalities and citizens of 7 countries, comprising 99 women and 47 men—have been granted the right to permanent residence based on their personal applications.
Upon signing the document, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to its humanitarian course and issued relevant instructions to the Foreign Minister regarding the implementation of the resolution.
