President of Turkmenistan Extends Condolences to President of Kazakhstan
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent deep condolences to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, regarding a tragic incident during military exercises in the Mangystau region that resulted in fatalities and injuries.
On behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, the Head of State conveyed sincere sympathy and support to the families and loved ones of the deceased servicemen and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The tragedy occurred on the Caspian coast on September 24 during Naval exercises, when seventeen naval personnel were swept out to sea due to a sudden deterioration in weather conditions and severe gale-force winds; three individuals were rescued, while fourteen lost their lives. Following the deaths of the servicemen, a National Day of Mourning was declared in Kazakhstan for September 25; national flags were flown at half-mast across the country, and entertainment events were cancelled.
