Tashkent enters the ranks of the world’s fastest-developing cities
Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent has climbed 128 positions in the Global Cities Index 2026, ranking 343rd among the world’s 1,000 largest metropolitan areas. The city made its biggest leap in the economic category, rising from 558th to 188th place in just one year, according to Yuz.uz.
Significant growth was also recorded in human capital: Tashkent rose to 108th place globally, demonstrating a sustained positive trend over the past three years.
The capital’s development momentum is also confirmed by a study conducted by Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Tashkent ranked third in the world for the pace of change, behind Shenzhen and Riyadh, while becoming the absolute leader in terms of the growth rate of economic activity. Analysts included the city in their list of promising metropolitan areas, “Cities to Watch.”
The strong results are the outcome of large-scale reforms and joint efforts by city services, businesses, and residents. The main development priority remains improving the quality of life for the population through better infrastructure and environmental conditions, as well as creating new opportunities for employment and education.
