India Develops Its Own Vihaan-I Chip Based on RISC-V Architecture

Indian semiconductor startup Aheesa Digital Innovations has unveiled the domestically developed Vihaan-I processor. The chip was designed for broadband networking devices based on the open RISC-V architecture, enabling the country to reduce its dependence on foreign technologies.
The company’s engineers have already developed and successfully tested a working prototype of the processor. The main objective of the project is to put a fully production-ready system-on-chip (SoC) into mass production and bring it to the commercial market by 2027.
The transition to the RISC-V architecture represents a strategic step for India. The open standard does not require the payment of licensing fees to third-party corporations and also provides a high degree of flexibility when designing chips for specific applications. In the case of Vihaan-I, the focus is on telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure.
At the current stage, the developers are continuing to optimize the system. The key challenge for Aheesa Digital Innovations will come in 2027, when the working prototype will have to be transformed into a product ready for commercial sale.
