Film about Uzbekistan Featuring Oscar Winner Ben Kingsley Wins Gold at Festival in Spain
The Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan received a gold award at the 10th anniversary international Terres Travel Festival 2026 in Spain. The film “Echo of Enlightenment” won high praise from the jury in the “Tourism Service” category, outperforming projects from more than 40 countries, Yuz.uz reports.
The film was created as part of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s flagship personal project. It presents the country as a historic center of science, culture and spiritual enlightenment. The film’s principal narrator is renowned British actor and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, who is known to international audiences for his portrayal of Avicenna in the film “The Physician.” In “Echo of Enlightenment,” he tells the story of the great scholars of the East and the outstanding contribution of Islamic civilization to the world’s heritage.
The victory at the Terres Festival in Tortosa is far from being the project’s only success. In 2026, the film also became a finalist for prestigious awards in New York and Cannes and received an award at the SILKFEST festival in Belgrade.
The award in Spain added to the list of international recognitions received by the Center of Islamic Civilization itself. Previously, it was entered into the Guinness World Records as the largest museum of Islamic civilization, recognized by TURKSOY as the “Best Museum of the Turkic World,” and named the “Islamic Heritage Site of the Year” at the World Halal Tourism Summit in Singapore.
The winning film was created by a creative team led by Firdavs Abdukhalikov, General Producer, and director Shokhrukh Rasulov.
