A two-day national workshop is underway in Ashgabat to update the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans, as well as prepare the Seventh National Report to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. The forum is being organized in partnership between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as part of a large-scale project by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The central item on the agenda was a detailed discussion of the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Turkmenistan for 2026–2035. This document lays a scientifically sound foundation for protecting the country's flora and fauna for the next decade, combining modern international environmental standards with the region's local natural and climatic conditions.

The event's broad format—with representatives from relevant government agencies, leading scientific institutions, businesses, and environmental NGOs—emphasizes an inclusive approach to addressing environmental challenges. Experts and participants in the dialogue focused not only on the theoretical aspects of sustainable development but also on practical mechanisms for balancing economic growth with the careful use of natural resources.

The seminar's work program included a detailed review of the drafts of Turkmenistan's Seventh National Report to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the specialized reports on the Cartagena Protocol (biosafety) and the Nagoya Protocol (access to genetic resources and equitable benefit sharing). The systematic preparation of these documents confirms Turkmenistan's status as a responsible participant in the global environmental dialogue, consistently fulfilling its international obligations and developing an effective partnership with UN bodies.
