The UN General Assembly has established an International Day for Safe, Secure, and Trusted Artificial Intelligence
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming August 31 as the International Day for Safe, Secure, and Trusted Artificial Intelligence. The document was initiated by Tajikistan, and thematic events on the global calendar will begin in 2027.
The choice of date is of historic significance for global science. It was on August 31, 1955, that the famous Dartmouth Research Seminar was first formulated, introducing the term "artificial intelligence" into the scientific lexicon and establishing the study of algorithms as an independent academic discipline.
The new platform aims to annually draw the global community's attention to the development of ethical standards for AI governance, promote the exchange of best practices, and protect data from technological risks.
According to the resolution, key relevant UN bodies—including the International Telecommunication Union and UNESCO—are tasked with providing practical support to Member States in creating digital capacity-building programs. The adoption of the document marked another step in strengthening the role of Central Asian countries as active participants in the global dialogue on the security of new technologies.
