Seattle Mayor Proclaims September 1 as Uzbekistan Independence Day
Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson has signed a special proclamation officially declaring September 1, 2026, “Uzbekistan Independence Day.” Yuz.uz reports.
The document highlights the historical significance of the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s independence, as well as the country’s achievements in strengthening its sovereignty and implementing large-scale economic reforms.
The proclamation describes Uzbekistan as a key economic and cultural center of Central Asia. It also highlights the country’s annual economic growth of 5–6%, its commitment to an open market, and its advantageous geographic location at the heart of the ancient Silk Road. Today, the region represents a strategic market with more than 100 million consumers, creating significant opportunities for Seattle businesses in trade, technology, logistics, and energy.
The city’s official recognition of the holiday is also linked to the work of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle, which contributes to strengthening business, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the two sides.
