President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent condolences to President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China over the natural disaster that occurred in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the country, which had tragic consequences.

At this difficult time, the head of state, on behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, conveyed sincere condolences and words of support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.

The tragedy on the China-Nepal border, which occurred on August 26, was caused by a large-scale glacier collapse and subsequent mudflows, landslides, and flooding. The disaster struck the border county of Gyirong (Jilong) in Tibet, as well as adjacent mountainous areas. The devastating glacial avalanche and mudflows damaged infrastructure, destroyed homes, and blocked transportation routes. Emergency services have declared the Girong County region a disaster zone, and search and rescue operations are underway using specialized equipment and aircraft.
