Azerbaijan Ratified a Package of Agreements with Turkmenistan in the Fields of Economics, Energy, and Customs
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a series of decrees approving the legal framework for expanding bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan. The signed package of documents gives effect to the fundamental agreements between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, which were reached during the high-level intergovernmental talks in Baku on June 22, 2026.
The approved set of documents covers key areas of strategic cooperation between the two states. Specifically, the ratification includes the fundamental Agreement on the Main Directions for Developing and Deepening Economic Cooperation, as well as a specialized protocol between the customs authorities of the two countries on maintaining statistics on mutual trade and assistance.
The package of decrees places special emphasis on interagency cooperation in the fields of energy, defense, and food security, with the relevant ministries and the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan tasked with implementing these tasks.
The ratification of this package underscores Baku and Ashgabat's commitment to elevating interstate relations to a qualitatively new level of institutional partnership. According to the text of the signed decrees, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan is already sending official notifications to the government of Turkmenistan on the completion of all necessary internal procedures, thus launching the practical implementation of joint projects in the economic, energy, and humanitarian sectors.
