The meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun, along with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

When two major developing countries representing the Global South sit at the same table to discuss not only bilateral issues but also global security, it sends a signal to the entire world. The "2+2" mechanism between China and Indonesia – the first of its kind established by China – demonstrates the maturity of their relationship and their readiness to take responsibility for regional and global stability. In an era of geopolitical shifts, such dialogues become not just a diplomatic formality but a tool for building a new multipolar world, where the voice of developing countries carries increasing weight.

Wang Yi noted that the joint China-Indonesia dialogue on foreign affairs and defence is the world's first "2+2" ministerial-level mechanism established by China and provides a new platform for strategic interaction between the two countries. As major developing countries and key members of the Global South, China and Indonesia should strengthen solidarity and cooperation in a timely manner, Wang said, adding that this has significance far beyond the bilateral dimension and will play an exemplary and leading role at the regional and global levels.

Under the new circumstances, China and Indonesia should continue to promote the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, unite the efforts of developing countries and jointly develop cooperation within the Global South, Wang emphasised.

China is ready to strengthen strategic coordination with Indonesia on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, APEC and BRICS, advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation, and promote the development of a fairer and more reasonable global governance system, he added.

Dong Jun said that China is ready to work with Indonesia to further tap the potential of defence cooperation and create new highlights in bilateral cooperation. China is ready to work with Indonesia to promote cooperation in defence and military development from a strategic perspective, so as to provide reliable security guarantees for their respective development, he said.

Reaffirming Indonesia's firm commitment to the One-China policy, Sugiono said that Indonesia highly appreciates China's firm support on issues concerning the protection of Indonesia's national sovereignty. Indonesia is ready to expand cooperation with China in counter-terrorism, law enforcement and combating cyber fraud, while enhancing intelligence exchange and capacity building, Sugiono said. Sjafrie stated that Indonesia is ready to strengthen strategic engagement with China, expand exchanges between the armed forces of the two countries, and deepen cooperation in such areas as defence, maritime security, cybersecurity, online gambling and telecommunications fraud, as well as transnational crime.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on international and regional security issues of mutual interest. They agreed to strengthen the sense of security partnership, support each other's core interests, jointly resist external interference and make greater contributions to world peace and development. Both sides jointly upheld the Asian security model, which entails sharing weal and woe, seeking common ground while setting aside differences, and prioritising dialogue and consultation, so as to maintain the overall momentum of regional cooperation and uphold peace and stability in the South China Sea. The two sides also expressed readiness to expand cooperation under the four global initiatives and jointly support the multilateral trading system. In addition, they agreed to enhance coordination on the Middle East issue and actively promote peace and a ceasefire.

As CCTV+ reports, the second ministerial "2+2" meeting strengthened strategic understanding between Beijing and Jakarta, confirming their readiness to jointly respond to the challenges of the 21st century. Expanding cooperation across a wide range of issues – from defence to cybersecurity – shows that the dialogue is evolving into a full-fledged partnership capable of influencing the regional agenda. Amid growing global uncertainty, such mechanisms become the foundation for building a fairer and more multipolar world, where the voices of Global South countries resonate in unison.
