Ashgabat Celebrates the 80th Anniversary of India’s Independence
Today, August 15, the Embassy of India in Ashgabat organized a festive event to mark the 80th anniversary of the country’s independence.
The celebration was attended by members of the Indian diaspora, Embassy staff and their families, as well as partners and friends of the diplomatic mission.
The event began with the joint rendition of the national song “Vande Mataram”. This was followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Turkmenistan Bandaru Wilsonbabu, accompanied by the national anthem “Jana Gana Mana”.
The Head of the diplomatic mission read out the Independence Day address to the nation by President of India Droupadi Murmu. In his remarks, the Ambassador reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to further strengthening and deepening the long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation with Turkmenistan.
The evening programme featured yoga demonstrations and patriotic musical performances. The Ambassador personally presented awards to the five best participants from Turkmenistan in the festive quiz “Know India”.
A special exhibition entitled “Har Ghar Tiranga”, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram”, was also held. The event concluded with a tasting of traditional Indian delicacies.
