A Turkmen-Uzbek Film About Magtymguly Will Be Presented at the LEFF Film Festival in St. Petersburg
A joint feature film by Turkmen and Uzbek filmmakers, "Magtymguly Fragi," has been included in the official program of the 7th Lendoc Film Festival (LEFF), which will be held in St. Petersburg from August 20 to 22. This historical biopic, filmed to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great 18th-century poet and thinker, will showcase the region's cultural heritage at one of the key film forums in Eurasia.
The project, implemented by the Oguzkhan Turkmenfilm Association and the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan under the direction of director Muzaffarhon Erkinov, tells the story of the poet's development, his studies in the madrassas of Bukhara and Khiva, and his tireless pursuit of unity and solidarity among nations. The leading role in the film was played by the young Turkmen actor Akhmet Amandurdyev.
The film "Magtymguly Fragi" has already earned high praise from the professional community and audiences at international venues. It won the Grand Prize for Best Feature Film at the 4th Gorkut-Ata International Film Festival in Ashgabat, took first prize at the Turan Film Festival in Turkey, received the Audience Award at the ECG Film Festival in London, and was included in the competition programs of the Eurasia Film Festival in Almaty and the Altyn Minbar Film Festival in Kazan.
The 2026 LEFF Film Festival will bring together forty feature and documentary films from thirteen countries, including Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, India, Iran, and Belarus. The organizers place a special emphasis on developing co-productions and joint projects, with the film about Magtymguly serving as a shining example of a successful interstate creative partnership.
