Key Events in the Life of Turkmenistan and the Country’s International Initiatives Were Discussed in Dushanbe
On August 11, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Tajikistan held a conference for Turkmen students, teachers, and representatives of the diaspora. The main topics of the meeting were preparations for the session of the Halk Maslahaty and the recognition of Turkmenistan’s international initiative at the UN level.
Participants were provided with detailed information about the important role of the Halk Maslahaty in determining the development priorities of Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to the upcoming session of the country’s highest representative body, which will be held on September 23, 2026. The session will review the results of the country’s work and outline priorities for the future.
Another key topic was the decision of the UN General Assembly to proclaim 2028 the International Year of International Law. The resolution was proposed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and received unanimous support from UN Member States. The Embassy emphasized that the initiative contributes to strengthening trust among countries, upholding the principles of the UN Charter, and promoting peaceful dialogue on the international stage.
For Turkmen citizens living and studying in Tajikistan, the meeting provided an excellent opportunity to be among the first to learn about the major state developments and foreign policy priorities of their homeland.
The official part of the conference concluded with a festive concert. Guests enjoyed traditional musical compositions performed on the dutar, the national Turkmen instrument that is included in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
