Tesla Cybercab: The Company's First Electric Vehicle with Built-In Starlink Satellite Connectivity


Tesla has published official photos of its two-seat Cybercab robotaxi featuring an integrated Starlink antenna. This marks the first time an automaker has installed a satellite communications module directly into the body of an electric vehicle during the production stage.
The published images clearly show the location of the Starlink system near the trunk lid. According to the schematics, the satellite module is positioned alongside a conventional 5G antenna, interior microphones, and an emergency-stop button. Production of Cybercab models without steering wheels or pedals hpected to form the backboas already begun at Tesla's factory in Austin, Texas. In the future, these vehicles are exne of the company's autonomous robotaxi fleet.
Why Does a Robotaxi Need Satellite Connectivity?
At present, Tesla's autonomous driving system does not require a mandatory satellite connection. Moreover, robotaxis operate in densely built-up urban areas, where tall buildings can often obstruct satellite signals.
According to experts, the installation of Starlink is a forward-looking measure. A direct communications link with satellites could allow robotaxis to continue operating in remote areas or industrial zones where terrestrial 5G mobile network coverage is completely unavailable.
