Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, announced the holding of the Seventh Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (COP7). The forum will be held on September 23 in Tehran with the participation of high-ranking representatives from all five Caspian littoral states.

Speaking at an event on Tuesday to mark the National Day of the Caspian Sea, the Iranian diplomat recalled that the Framework Convention was signed in Tehran on August 12, 2003, providing the legal basis for ensuring the environmental safety of the sea. Iran emphasized that the primary responsibility for preserving the ecosystem, stability, and future Caspian initiatives lies directly with the littoral states.

At the upcoming conference in Tehran, the parties plan to discuss key regional issues, including climate change, falling sea levels, declining bioresources, and marine pollution. Particular attention will be paid to protecting rare species, particularly the Caspian seal, and coordinating environmental projects, Tasnim News reports.

The Iranian side supported Turkmenistan's initiative to hold a Caspian Environmental Summit on sea level reduction, scheduled for October 7 in Avaza. The convergence of the environmental forums in Tehran and Avaza aims to strengthen Caspian diplomacy and establish coordinated mechanisms for the region's sustainable development.
