Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan, Atadurdy Bayramov, met with newly elected Chairman of the Japan Association of Travel Agents, Yuji Hara. The diplomat congratulated the head of Japan's largest tourism organization on his appointment and discussed steps to expand travel between the two countries.

Turkmenistan's partnership with JATA has been developing since the 2013 JATA Travel Showcase in Tokyo. The successful presentation of Turkmenistan's cultural and tourism potential at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka provided new impetus for dialogue.

The key issues of the talks were facilitating the launch of direct flights between Ashgabat and Tokyo, as well as establishing direct contacts between Turkmen and Japanese tour operators.

This meeting has important practical implications for the industry. For Japanese tourists, the absence of complicated transfers is a key factor when choosing a route, so a direct flight from the national carrier could dramatically increase the influx of travelers from East Asia. Furthermore, Japan has shown great interest in the Silk Road monuments and UNESCO sites in Turkmenistan, positioning the country as a key destination for premium cultural and educational tourism.
