Ankara and Ashgabat Compare Notes on Key Partnership Areas
Ankara hosted the latest round of inter-MFA political consultations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey. The diplomatic talks were held at the level of heads of relevant departments: the Turkmen side was led by Ishanguly Amanlyev, Head of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Turkish side was led by Togan Oral, Head of the General Directorate for Central Asian Affairs and the Organization of Turkic States. During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also held a separate meeting with Ayşe Berris Ekinci, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
During the meetings, the diplomats discussed a wide range of practical issues, identifying regular interagency dialogue as a key factor in strengthening the partnership. Particular attention was paid to preparing for future contacts at the highest and high levels, improving the legal framework, developing interparliamentary ties, and pressing consular issues.
The economic section of the talks covered prospects for expanding cooperation in trade, energy, transport, and construction. The parties emphasized the important role of the Turkmen-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council in the coordinated advancement of joint projects.
Interaction on international platforms was a separate topic. Representatives of the foreign ministries confirmed their readiness to mutually support initiatives within reputable international and regional structures, including the Organization of Turkic States. The parties expressed mutual interest in consistently expanding humanitarian and cultural dialogue, encompassing science, education, healthcare, and sports.
Meanwhile, in Ashgabat, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmed Gurbanov received Deputy Head of the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey Ramazan Secilmiş. The meeting focused on refining the legal framework for migration and consular cooperation. Representatives of the relevant ministries reviewed drafts of new relevant documents and confirmed their readiness to regularly exchange experience to ensure reliable legal protection for citizens of both countries.
