At the 106th plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution, "Year of International Law, 2028," initiated by Turkmenistan, was adopted by consensus. The document was co-sponsored by 78 UN member states, demonstrating broad support for Ashgabat's foreign policy.

Introducing the draft document, the Turkmen side emphasized that, in the context of global transformations, respect for international law is a fundamental condition for maintaining peace, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthening multilateral dialogue. The adoption of the resolution further recognizes the country's contribution to promoting the rule of law and a culture of trust.

The proclamation of 2028 as the Year of International Law directly aligns with the practical implementation of the country's foreign policy. The day before, ORIENT detailed Turkmenistan's priorities for the upcoming 81st session of the UN General Assembly, from developing an International Code on AI in Diplomacy to creating logistics corridors across the Caspian Sea. In preparation for the 2028 events, Ashgabat also plans to host a major global forum dedicated to the relationship between international law, neutrality, and preventive diplomacy.
