World simulation accelerates robot training
Machines learn not only from mistakes but also from millions of virtual lives lived in seconds. When a robot can drop a cup a thousand times in simulation before picking it up in reality, the line between the digital and physical worlds begins to blur. World simulation gives AI the ability to train without risk, accelerating its integration into everyday life.
World simulation technology is becoming a key breakthrough in embodied AI at WAIC 2026, enabling robots to learn complex tasks in virtual environments. Over 200 companies are showcasing their latest products, highlighting advances in this field. On the exhibition floor, robots demonstrated household tasks — from folding clothes to making coffee. Behind these capabilities are world models that create virtual training environments. "Embodied AI faces a shortage of data, while world models can generate virtually unlimited scenarios, narrowing the sim to real gap," said Huang Guan, a WAIC participant.
As AI expands into the physical world, robots require vast amounts of data. World models replicate physics and create highly interactive virtual environments, allowing robots to acquire skills through large scale simulation. According to another exhibitor, the technology enables users to freely modify objects and environments, making training more efficient and adaptable.
WAIC 2026 is being held in Shanghai from 17 to 20 July under the theme "AI Partnership for a Bright Future". The event features more than 1,100 enterprises, showcasing over 3,000 products and technologies, including more than 300 global premieres.
