UNICEF Is Helping Introduce Play-Based and Exploratory Learning in Turkmen Kindergartens
A workshop between UNICEF and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan is taking place in Ashgabat. The goal is to make preschool education in the country truly vibrant and engaging for children. Instead of the usual strict classroom settings, the emphasis is being placed on a play-based and exploratory approach, where the child, driven by their natural curiosity, becomes the primary initiator of the process.
For this purpose, renowned international expert Christian Fabbi was invited to Turkmenistan. He not only shares best practices with local specialists but also personally visits Ashgabat kindergartens to help adapt best practices to national standards.
As UNICEF Deputy Representative in Turkmenistan Zhanar Sagimbayeva noted, the early years are the most important foundation for a person's entire future life, and supporting teachers in the transition to such play-based learning will help unlock the potential of every child.
As part of this work, national partners plan to completely update kindergarten curricula and revise the training system for future educators at the country's pedagogical universities and colleges. Ultimately, this will make preschool education in Turkmenistan not only high-quality but also truly comfortable and enjoyable for children themselves.
