Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev arrives in Shanghai for AI conference

On Wednesday, Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev arrived in Shanghai to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High Level Meeting on Global AI Governance. The event will be held in Shanghai from 17 to 20 July. China's President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote address. According to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during Tokayev's stay in China, the two heads of state will hold in depth strategic talks.
The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) has been held in Shanghai since 2018 and has become one of the world's largest platforms for discussing AI development, ethics and international regulation. This year, the conference includes a dedicated session on global AI governance for the first time, reflecting growing interest among countries in jointly shaping rules for future technologies. Kazakhstan, which is actively developing its digital economy, is participating at a high level.
