Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Synchronized Their Regional Agendas During Talks in Ashgabat

Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov's visit to Ashgabat confirmed the special strategic partnership between the two neighboring states. At a meeting with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan conveyed warm greetings from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasizing that Tashkent attaches exceptional importance to strengthening dialogue with Ashgabat.
During the conversation, the parties focused on preparations for major international events upcoming in Turkmenistan. As part of our country's CIS Presidency, Avaza will host the next meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, as well as the Consultative Meeting of the Leaders of Central Asian Countries and Azerbaijan. It was noted that these high-level meetings are intended not only to strengthen regional trust but also to give additional impetus to bilateral Turkmen-Uzbek projects.
Bakhtiyor Saidov discussed the practical implications of these plans in detail with his Turkmen counterpart, Rashid Meredov, during the latest round of interagency political consultations. The diplomats agreed that regular high-level contacts, which enable prompt resolution of issues in energy, industry, and agriculture, remain the key to the dynamic nature of relations.

The parties discussed in detail the prospects for developing transport and transit corridors, creating new logistics routes, and intensifying the work of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission. The humanitarian dimension was also addressed: Ashgabat and Tashkent intend to expand direct contacts between academic communities, youth organizations, and artists.
An important outcome of the Ashgabat talks was the signing of bilateral documents laying the legal foundation for medium-term cooperation. The ministers signed a Program of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries for 2027–2028, as well as an intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Ensuring International Information Security. The latter document clearly demonstrates that the partners are moving toward coordinating efforts in the most advanced and sensitive areas, responding to the global challenges of the digital age.
