In a world where global challenges demand collective responses, diplomatic visits become more than just ceremony — they are bridges of mutual understanding. Every handshake at the highest level is an acknowledgment that even countries separated by thousands of kilometres can unite around common goals and values. The Namibian president's visit to China is not only a tribute to traditional friendship but also a step towards strengthening the unity of the Global South, whose voice is growing louder on the international stage.

On Sunday, Namibian President Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah arrived in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, beginning a seven day state visit to China. The visit coincides with the 36th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China and Namibia established diplomatic ties in 1990, and bilateral relations have steadily developed since then. In 2018, the relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

China is Namibia's main trading partner. In 2025, bilateral trade reached US$1.85 billion, up 35.7 per cent year on year. China's Foreign Ministry stated that the visit will elevate Sino Namibian relations to a new level, contribute to building an all weather China Africa community with a shared future in the new era, and support the efforts of Global South countries to strengthen their unity.

Namibia is one of Africa's key countries, rich in natural resources including diamonds, uranium and fish. China has been actively investing in infrastructure and energy projects in Namibia, as well as providing support in agriculture and education. New cooperation agreements in green energy, digital technologies and logistics are expected to be signed during the visit. As CCTV+ reports. President Nandi Ndaitwah's visit will mark an important milestone in bilateral relations and open new prospects for cooperation between China and Africa as a whole.
