Keiko Fujimori declared winner of Peru's presidential election

On Friday, Roberto Burneo, president of Peru's National Electoral Jury, officially declared Keiko Fujimori of the "Popular Force" party the winner of the presidential election held on 7 June. She was elected for the 2026–2031 term. "On behalf of the National Electoral Jury, I officially proclaim Mrs Keiko Fujimori President of the Republic and her presidential ticket elected by the sovereign will of the Peruvian people," Burneo said at the ceremony. According to the National Office of Electoral Processes, Fujimori received more than 50 percent of the votes. She will take office on 28 July, with Luis Galarreta as first vice president and Miguel Torres as second vice president.
Keiko Fujimori is the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990–2000). She served as Peru's First Lady, then as a congresswoman and opposition leader. She had previously run for president in 2011, 2016 and 2021, losing each time in the second round. Her current victory stems from a unification of right wing forces and voter demand for stability and a tough line on security. As CCTV+ reports. International observers noted that the elections were conducted without serious irregularities, and regional leaders have already sent congratulations to the new president.
