Tenge Becomes One of the World's Fastest-Strengthening Currencies
Kazakhstan's national currency, the tenge, has become one of the world's strongest-performing currencies against the U.S. dollar since the beginning of 2026. According to an analysis of exchange market data conducted by RIA Novosti, the tenge appreciated by 4.22% against the dollar during the first six months of the year.
With this result, the Kazakh currency ranked fifth globally. It was surpassed only by the Colombian peso, which gained 9.02%, the Israeli shekel (6.59%), the Brazilian real (5.91%), and the Hungarian forint (5.55%).
The Russian ruble also strengthened against the U.S. dollar, rising by 0.61% since the beginning of the year.
The Turkish lira was the weakest-performing currency over the same period, losing 7.91% of its value against the dollar. It was followed by the Sri Lankan rupee, which declined by 7.81%. Other currencies that weakened significantly included the South Korean won (7.06%), the Indonesian rupiah (6.67%), and the Romanian leu (5.74%).
