Ashgabat and the ILO Are Discussing the Opening of an International Labor Organization Office in Turkmenistan

The dialogue between Turkmenistan and the International Labor Organization (ILO) is reaching a new practical level. Key aspects of this collaboration were discussed in Ashgabat by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Director of the ILO's International Labor Standards Department, Corinne Varga.
The parties confirmed their commitment to expanding the organization's presence in the region. Specifically, they discussed the opening of an official ILO office in Turkmenistan. The vector of joint work for the near future has been clearly defined: the parties emphasized the importance of implementing the Cooperation Roadmap to 2026. This document aims to systematically modernize national labor legislation and implement advanced global employment standards.
Turkmenistan once again reaffirmed its full commitment to the obligations arising from its membership in the ILO. These issues are under the constant review of the Interdepartmental Commission for Ensuring the Compliance with Turkmenistan's International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
The positive dynamics of relations between the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan and the ILO Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) were identified as an important growth area at the meeting. Direct contact with this specialized UN agency allows for the development of internal social dialogue and the implementation of better protection mechanisms for workers directly on the ground.
The meeting demonstrated the parties' mutual desire to move from general declarations to specific joint projects that will make the country's labor market more modern and secure.
