Solar Energy for Rural Medicine – A Project in Yoloten

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), together with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, has successfully completed a pilot project to install two solar photovoltaic systems at the Yoloten District Hospital in the Mary Region.
This step is part of a global strategy to transition primary healthcare to renewable energy sources (RES). Independent power supply ensures that high-tech equipment, operating rooms, and vaccine refrigerators will continue to operate normally in the event of grid outages.
The Yoloten project is intended to serve as a model for modernizing other medical facilities across the country. The transition to environmentally friendly solutions demonstrates how modern technologies can simultaneously improve patient care and conserve the planet's resources. Given Turkmenistan's high solar activity, the introduction of RES offers long-term prospects for the entire social infrastructure.
