Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz recovers: 24 vessels in one day, 11 million barrels of oil

Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz recovers: according to data from analytics firm Kpler, on Monday 24 vessels carrying commodities passed through the global energy corridor. When tankers start moving again and their numbers grow day by day, the world gets the clearest signal: the conflict is receding. Twenty four vessels in a single day is not just a statistic — it is a return to normal life for the global economy.

Eleven million barrels of crude oil passing through the strait are not just cargo — they are confidence. Confidence of captains and shipowners that the water is safe again. And though much uncertainty remains, the very fact of resumed shipping shows that diplomacy is beginning to overcome chaos.

Among them were oil tankers, gas carriers and bulk carriers. Data also showed that shipping in the strait continued to recover on Tuesday, with a giant oil tanker and several smaller vessels entering the gulf. The total carrying capacity of tankers that passed through the strait was approximately 11 million barrels of crude oil, indicating growing confidence among shipowners in the ability to transit this strategically vital waterway.

Also on Tuesday, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) warned that while the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will ease pressure on global energy supplies in the short term, many vulnerable economies will continue to face the consequences of long term rises in food and fuel prices.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic maritime corridor connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, through which about 20% of global oil and a significant portion of liquefied natural gas pass.

Its effective closure in late February 2026 caused a sharp spike in energy prices. The resumption of shipping became possible after the signing of the US Iran memorandum of understanding on 18 June and subsequent technical negotiations mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. Nevertheless, UNCTAD warns that the crisis will have long lasting effects, especially in developing countries where rising food and fuel prices have hit the most vulnerable populations. The recovery of shipping is the first step, but not the last.

As reported by CCTV+, shipping in the strait is gradually returning to normal levels, but international organisations are urging continued attention to the long term economic consequences of the conflict.
