China approved a record 40 innovative medical devices in 2026
China approved a record 40 innovative medical devices in 2026, according to a report released on Saturday by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP). The medicine of the future begins not in the operating room, but in the laboratory and on the drawing board. An innovative medical device is not just a piece of equipment. It is a life saved, a diagnosis accelerated, a new way to help those suffering from diseases that were considered incurable just yesterday.
When a country approves 40 new devices in half a year, it means that science and industry are working in unison, and patients are gaining access to technologies that were once available only to a few. China is not just catching up — it is setting the pace in the race for health.
The report on the development of the medical device supply chain in China noted that as of June 18 this year, a total of 431 innovative medical devices have been approved in the country. These include 40 new devices approved in 2026, a record figure. The industrial market volume for medical devices in China exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan (about 180 billion US dollars) in 2025, up 1.12% year-on-year.
The record number of approvals in 2026 is part of China's long-term strategy to reduce dependence on imported medical equipment and to develop its own innovations. According to industry experts, the market growth to 1.2 trillion yuan in 2025 reflects sustained demand for high-tech diagnostic and therapeutic devices, including artificial intelligence systems for medical imaging, robotic surgical complexes and wearable health monitors. The accelerated approval of innovative devices eases the pathway to market for new developments, shortening the journey from concept to clinical practice.
As reported by CCTV+, in the coming years China intends to maintain the high pace of approval for innovative medical products in order to provide the population with accessible and high-quality medical technologies.
