Uzbeks Are Selling More Foreign Currency to Banks


Since the beginning of the year, Uzbek citizens have sold more than $10 billion worth of foreign currency to banks, while the combined demand for foreign currency from legal entities and individuals exceeded $25 billion, according to the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
According to the report, total demand increased by 20.1% compared to the same period in 2025. Of this amount, $20.2 billion accounted for foreign currency purchases by legal entities, while $5.5 billion was purchased by individuals. The total supply of foreign currency from both legal entities and individuals also increased by nearly $5 billion.
This figure was 28.6% higher than during the same period last year and reached $22.3 billion. According to the regulator, during the first five months of the year, the population sold $10.2 billion to commercial banks, while legal entities sold $12.1 billion worth of foreign currency.
The report also notes that during this period, the exchange rate of the national currency fluctuated within the range of 11,938–12,320 Uzbek soums per U.S. dollar and remained virtually unchanged compared to the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, the average exchange-rate volatility amounted to 30 soums, or 0.25%.
