Meeting in New Delhi on the sidelines of BRICS, support for China's BRICS presidency in 2027, defence of Global South interests, traditional friendship and joint modernisation. China and India, as the two largest developing countries, are ready to set an example of solidarity.

As reported by CCTV+, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Tuesday in New Delhi with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs. Wang Yi is in New Delhi to attend the 16th meeting of BRICS national security advisers and high level representatives on national security.

During the meeting, Modi stated that India and China are ancient civilisations with thousands of years of friendly exchanges, and both countries have long held leading and dominant positions in the world. In the current context, both sides should continue to develop their traditional friendship, maintain high level exchanges, promote practical cooperation and defend the common interests of Global South countries. Modi added that India supports China taking over the BRICS chairmanship next year and is ready to cooperate with China to advance the BRICS cause.

Wang Yi said that China and India, as the two largest developing countries and important members of the Global South, should play an exemplary role in strengthening solidarity and self reliance among Global South countries. China will continue to support India in fulfilling its duties as BRICS chair and will work with India to ensure steady progress in BRICS cooperation.

Wang Yi also noted that China is ready to work with India to implement the important agreements reached between the leaders of the two countries, continuously strengthen trust and dispel doubts, properly handle sensitive issues, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, maintain the positive momentum of China India relations and jointly advance modernisation processes. This fully serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and meets the common expectations of the international community.

On the same day, Wang Yi attended the 16th meeting of BRICS national security advisers and high level representatives on national security. BRICS is a grouping of five major developing economies — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In 2027, the chairmanship of the organisation will pass to China. Relations between India and China — the world's two most populous countries — are of key importance for stability in Asia and the world. Despite border disputes, both sides demonstrate a readiness for dialogue and cooperation. The concept of the "Global South" unites developing countries seeking a more just world order.

When the leaders of two of the oldest civilisations meet to discuss not just the past but the future, hope is born. India and China are not just neighbours — they are two thirds of humanity. Their cooperation can shift the global balance of power, making it fairer. Modi and Wang Yi speak of traditional friendship, but behind their words lie pragmatism and shared challenges: climate, economy, security. The Global South looks to them for leadership. And when China takes over the BRICS chairmanship and India supports that move, it becomes clear: the future is not about confrontation but about dialogue. Two countries that were once the centres of the world are again ready to become its backbone.
