$36,000 per unit, 2 weeks of training instead of years of breeding, crowd scanning, video streaming and entry into danger zones. Monterrey deployed Chinese K9 X robot dogs to secure stadiums during the 2026 World Cup.

As reported by CCTV+, Monterrey, a Mexican city hosting FIFA 2026 World Cup matches, has deployed Chinese developed robot dogs equipped with advanced crowd patrolling technology to assist police in securing the area around the stadium. Security measures around the stadium have been stepped up, and the robot dogs joined police forces as fans arrived.

The robot dog, named K9 X, can scan crowds, stream video and enter dangerous areas instead of human officers. Local police say the robot dogs are making their World Cup debut and are intended for long term use as part of ongoing investment in security system modernisation. Purchased from Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer Unitree Robotics at around $36,000 each, the robot dogs are among the latest tech innovations reaching Mexico from across the Pacific.

Elías Jarman, a Mexican football fan, said: "I feel we are moving forward technologically. Seeing these robots gives me more confidence that I am safer wherever I go." Javier González, another fan, added: "China has always had advanced technology, and modern robots are doing incredible things, so we are proud that Mexico is adopting these technologies." Training traditional service dogs takes years, while officers can master these robot dogs in just two weeks.

Unitree Robotics is a Chinese company specialising in robot dogs and humanoid robots. Their products are widely used in China for patrols, industrial inspection and rescue operations. The K9 X is one of the latest models, equipped with high resolution cameras, thermal imagers and autonomous obstacle avoidance systems.

Monterrey is one of three Mexican cities hosting 2026 World Cup matches. Using robot dogs at such a major event demonstrates growing trust in Chinese technology in Latin America.

When a robot dog instead of a real one patrols a stadium and fans feel safe, the line between fantasy and reality blurs. Chinese technology crosses the Pacific not in cargo ships but as mechanical guardians that watch the crowd, analyse and protect. $36,000 per unit — and two weeks of training instead of years of breeding and drilling. This is not just a saving of time and money.

It is a paradigm shift: security no longer depends on fatigue or intuition. It becomes precise, cold and reliable. And while football fans celebrate goals, the robot dogs silently do their job — so that no one notices their safety now rests on mechanical shoulders.
