Days of Magtymguly Poetry Were Held in Kyiv

From June 11 to 20, Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, hosted the “Days of Magtymguly Poetry,” bringing together diplomats, scholars, writers, and students. The cultural event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine in cooperation with the Magtymguly Library in Kyiv and was dedicated to the Day of Culture and Art Workers of Turkmenistan and the Poetry Day of Magtymguly Pyragy, as part of celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
For international guests, the event provided a unique opportunity to discover the rich world of Turkmen culture, appreciate the profound philosophy of its classical literature, and strengthen friendly ties between nations. The program, which included both online and in-person meetings, enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of Turkmenistan’s spiritual values and distinctive national traditions.
As part of the Poetry Days, famous works of the classical poet were recited in Turkmen, Ukrainian, French, and English by philologists, university students, and schoolchildren. A special creative atmosphere was created by musical performances, during which students from local schools presented original vocal compositions based on Magtymguly’s poems, with music composed by their teachers.
Guests of the forum were also invited to visit the poet’s memorial room-museum located within the library. Visitors had the opportunity to see rare editions of books published in various languages, traditional musical instruments, and unique examples of Turkmen decorative and applied arts.
The final highlight of the event was the recitation of the poem “Mount Songu-Dagy” at the monument to Magtymguly in Kyiv. The verses dedicated to love for the homeland and its prosperity, performed by Turkmen youth in two languages, demonstrated that the poetry of the great master continues to inspire new generations and serves as a solid foundation for the further development of cultural cooperation among nations.
