The unique "Night Museums" project, designed to reveal Turkey's rich cultural heritage from a new perspective and make it accessible in the evening, has officially launched its third season. This initiative allows travelers to explore renowned museums and archaeological sites after sunset, immersing themselves in the mysterious and romantic atmosphere of the past.

Night Museums Turkey

In 2025, the project attracted over 1 million visitors, and in the 2026 season—from June 1 to October 1—20 historical sites across the country will be open for evening visits. From ancient Ephesus to the majestic Mount Nemrut, from Galata Tower to the Zeugma Mosaic Museum—these locations will welcome guests from 7:00 PM until late at night. The project not only diversifies the cultural tourism landscape but also helps reduce daytime tourist flow, contributing to the preservation of historical monuments.

Istanbul's Museums Illuminated at Night

Turkey's cultural capital, Istanbul, is a must-see for those seeking to see its iconic landmarks illuminated by their mystical night lights. This summer, visitors will discover the Istanbul Archaeology Museum (the country's first museum housing priceless relics of ancient civilizations), the Galata Tower with its iconic panoramas of the glittering city and the Golden Horn, and the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, housed in the former Ibrahim Pasha Palace. Just imagine: witnessing the world's oldest peace treaty in the halls of the Archaeology Museum, admiring the sea of city lights from the heights of the Galata Tower, and then immersing yourself in the treasures of Islamic calligraphy and carpets—it's a truly unique cultural experience.

Antiquity under the Starry Sky of the Aegean

Perhaps the most captivating ancient city, shining under a carpet of stars, is the legendary Ephesus in Izmir Province. It is one of the most perfectly preserved Roman cities in the world, which, thanks to its sophisticated nighttime illumination, is literally reborn, revealing the grandeur of its monumental façades.

Among other Aegean locations where history comes alive at night, the jewel of Denizli—ancient Hierapolis—and the Temple of Apollo in Didim (Aydın Province) stand out. Hierapolis, adjacent to the snow-white travertines of Pamukkale, appears truly mystical under the dark sky, thanks to the brightly lit ancient theater and ancient streets. And the Temple of Apollo, once one of the largest sanctuaries of the ancient world, amazes with the monumentality of its graceful Ionic columns illuminated by nighttime floodlights.

Star Routes of the Turkish Riviera

Antalya, the heart of the Turkish Riviera, combines not only beach holidays but also the magnificent heritage of the ancient regions of Lycia, Pamphylia, and Pisidia. Now you can explore three of the most picturesque ancient cities on the coast—Aspendos, Patara, and Side—at night. Aspendos, with its gigantic and incredibly preserved Roman theater; Patara, home to the first democratic parliament and its restored ancient lighthouse; and Side, with its signature Temple of Apollo at the sea's edge, await visitors in the evening. The Alanya Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Lycian Civilizations also remain open late.

The list of night museums also covers other unique corners of Anatolia:

• Mount Nemrut (Adiyaman): This famous sanctuary with giant stone statues of ancient gods is open to visitors in the pre-dawn hours—from 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM—allowing you to experience an unforgettable sunrise.

• Seljuk Cemetery in Ahlat (Bitlis): Unique medieval tombstones, masterpieces of early Turkic stone carving, take on a particularly majestic appearance in the dark.

• Derinkuyu Underground City (Cappadocia): This multi-level city, carved into the rock and serving as a refuge for early Christians, offers an even more thrilling experience for explorers of mysteries when illuminated at night.

• The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, the famous Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep, and the magnificent Haleplibahçe Archaeological Complex and Mosaic Museum in Şanlıurfa also open their doors until late in the evening.
