Pope Leo XIV Consecrates the Main Tower of the Sagrada Família

On June 10, Barcelona witnessed one of the most significant religious and cultural events of the century. Pope Leo XIV officially inaugurated and consecrated the central and tallest tower of the Sagrada Família Basilica — the Tower of Jesus Christ. Symbolically, the ceremony took place exactly on the 100th anniversary of the death of the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, who laid the foundations for this legendary cathedral.
The event attracted enormous public attention, with more than 120,000 spectators gathering on the streets of the Catalan capital. The solemn Mass inside the basilica was attended by Spain’s highest-ranking officials, including King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
Following the service, the Pontiff appeared outside and blessed the massive ceramic cross crowning the new structure. The celebrations concluded with a spectacular drone light show and fireworks display.
Construction of the Tower of Jesus Christ was fully completed in February this year. With its inauguration, the Sagrada Família reached its final designed height of 172.5 meters, officially becoming the tallest religious structure in the world.
