Bank Melli Iran, Bank Saderat Iran, Bank Tejarat and another major bank were hit by a limited cyberattack. Mobile and online banking, ATMs and card services experienced disruptions. Technical teams took preventive measures; no data breach has been recorded.

As reported by CCTV+, on Saturday a cyberattack disrupted systems at four major Iranian banks, including Bank Melli Iran, Bank Saderat Iran and Bank Tejarat, according to the Coordination Commission of State Banks of Iran. Customers of affected banks reported failures in mobile and online banking, ATMs, POS terminals and some card services.

A detailed technical investigation confirmed the disruptions were caused by a limited cyberattack. The banks said their technical staff took preventive measures as soon as the anomaly was detected to protect customer data and banking infrastructure. Katasi, secretary of the Coordination Commission of State Banks of Iran, said on Saturday that necessary remedial measures had been taken. So far, no unauthorized access to customer data or data leaks have been recorded.

Iran has been the target of multiple cyberattacks in recent years, aimed at critical infrastructure including the banking system and industrial facilities. The Coordination Commission of State Banks of Iran is the key body overseeing cybersecurity in the financial sector. POS terminals are point of sale payment devices.

The digital economy rests on trust. When ATMs suddenly stop working and cards fail at terminals, panic grips millions. But if the attack is met not by hacker luck but by timely defense, fear recedes. Iranian banks are not revealing details, but they have already proven the main thing: customer data stayed inside. In a world where money has become digits, the security of those digits is the only real currency. As specialists restore systems, ordinary people keep paying for their purchases — because invisible armor worked just in time.
