Turkmenistan Presents Climate Initiatives at UN Session in Bonn

A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the country's Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection, is actively participating in the 64th Session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is taking place in Bonn, Germany, from June 8 to 18. During the plenary sessions and thematic discussions of this prestigious international forum, the Turkmen delegation presented its official national position on key issues on the global climate agenda. Participants were briefed on the extensive practical work being carried out in Turkmenistan to fulfill its obligations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
In their presentations, representatives of the Turkmen side emphasized the country's strong commitment to collective international efforts to effectively combat climate change. The comprehensive measures being implemented in the country to systematically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, significantly improve energy efficiency in production, actively implement advanced environmentally friendly technologies, and consistently develop renewable energy sources were outlined in detail. In this context, the delegates specifically noted that Turkmenistan is currently finalizing its updated Nationally Determined Contribution to Climate Action in close and productive partnership with the UN Development Programme.

At the forum in Bonn, the international environmental community focused on Turkmenistan's current regional climate initiatives. Key among these is the establishment of a specialized Regional Climate Technology Center for Central Asia in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation briefed forum participants on the ongoing preparatory work for the full launch of this structure and confirmed its full commitment to further developing deep practical cooperation with all states in the region, international organizations, and relevant UN agencies.
On the sidelines of the climate session, the Turkmen delegation also held a number of important bilateral meetings and talks with representatives of other states party to the Convention, as well as the heads of international and regional environmental organizations. The parties discussed promising areas for expanding collaboration in climate policy, implementing modern technologies, strengthening regional cooperation, and jointly implementing major environmental projects aimed at achieving the Global Sustainable Development Goals. Turkmenistan's participation in the session once again clearly confirmed the country's consistent commitment to promoting constructive initiatives that ensure long-term environmental sustainability and the well-being of future generations.
