A Delegation from the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan Visited Japan

From June 10 to 12, a Turkmen delegation led by Democratic Party Chairman Ata Serdarov paid a working visit to Japan. As part of their busy schedule in Tokyo, they held important meetings with Taro Aso, Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan; Shunichi Suzuki, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party; Shinpei Matsushita, Chairman of the Japan-Turkmenistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group; and Arfiya Eri, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
During the talks, the parties discussed the current status and future directions for the comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan. Participants were pleased to note that, thanks to consistent, trusting political dialogue at the highest level, Turkmen-Japanese relations are currently demonstrating rapid development across a wide range of areas. In this context, the parties particularly emphasized the importance of the high-level meetings held in Tokyo in 2025, which provided a powerful additional impetus to the further strengthening of interstate cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to deepening interparliamentary ties during the discussions. The parties praised the active and productive work of the friendship groups established between the legislative bodies of the two countries, noting their significant contribution to expanding contacts in legislative, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, educational, and other key areas. A lively exchange of views took place on expanding cooperation between the leading political parties of the two countries. In this regard, the partners noted the high value of establishing direct dialogue between the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, as well as the development of an effective mechanism for party cooperation.
During the talks, the Turkmen and Japanese sides thoroughly examined specific constructive proposals aimed at further strengthening the interparliamentary partnership. These included organizing and holding the "Central Asia + Japan" Parliamentary Dialogue Forum in Ashgabat in 2027, the systematic development of comprehensive interaction between women parliamentarians, and the steady expansion of trade and economic ties. It was particularly emphasized that economic cooperation, including the successful promotion and implementation of major joint projects in the oil, gas, and chemical industries, traditionally occupies a strategic place in the overall Turkmen-Japanese partnership.
