Embodied intelligence without borders: students from 15 universities in China and Central Asia compete in real world robotics
Collaborative, service and intelligent construction robots — three categories where practice beat pure theory. Participants from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and China commissioned equipment, diagnosed faults and optimized solutions. Winners will receive internships at Chinese enterprises. On the same day, the China Kazakhstan Joint Media Content Creation Lab officially opened.
As reported by CCTV+, the Central Asian special stage of the International Embodied Intelligence Innovation Competition (IEIIC) for robotics took place on Thursday in Astana, Kazakhstan. The event brought together students from 15 universities in China and Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It moved away from the traditional model of purely theoretical contests and focused on real world application scenarios. The competition included three categories: collaborative robots, service robots, and intelligent construction robots.
Participating teams competed in equipment commissioning, fault diagnosis and solution optimization. An expert panel conducted comprehensive evaluations based on industry standards. Botagoz Omarova, co founder of C2K International Education, noted: "In addition to cash prizes, Chinese organizers will provide opportunities for internships and practical work at Chinese enterprises. I think this is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their abilities and acquire new knowledge." In recent years, cooperation between China and Central Asian countries has continued to deepen in fields such as information technology, logistics and intelligent construction. Organizers in Kazakhstan stated that the competition is part of a broader cooperation program between China and Central Asian countries in education and advanced technology. Also on Thursday, the China Kazakhstan Joint Media Content Creation Lab was officially inaugurated. The lab will serve as a regular platform for cooperation in content co creation, talent exchange and coordinated brand development.
Representatives at the event held in depth discussions on practical cooperation, including joint education programs, co building of training bases, and project implementation in digital and intelligent industries, aimed at strengthening the integration of education, talent development and industrial growth.
IEIIC is an international competition focused on embodied intelligence — systems that not only process data but physically interact with the world through robots. The Central Asian stage was the first to be organized in such a hands on format. The China Kazakhstan media lab is a new step under the Belt and Road Initiative in the digital sphere.
The classic university formula "knowledge is power" today needs a supplement: "the ability to apply knowledge is even greater power." When students from different countries lean over the same robot, searching for a fault or fine tuning sensors, not only language barriers fall — the wall between academic theory and live engineering collapses. The competition in Astana showed that the future lies not in knowing the formula, but in making a robot work on a dusty construction site or a crowded hall. And internships in China become the bridge that turns winners into creators.
